As the largest vocational training provider in NSW, TAFE NSW offers in excess of 2500 courses ranging from certificates, diplomas, short courses, advanced diplomas and degrees.
TAFE NSW’s analytics team spent countless hours, every month, manually collecting and piecing together incomplete and inconsistent data, across a range of technology platforms, and then reporting to multiple stakeholders.
Overwhelmed by the plethora of legacy systems and digital assets, TAFE knew they needed an external team of data experts to help drive efficiency and accurate reporting across the board.
As data specialists our role was to help bring all relevant data into one location so that TAFE can easily track, measure and derive meaningful insight from their data.

To better understand the complexity of TAFE’s organisational structure and objectives we conducted a series of client immersion workshops across each division in TAFE and understand individual reporting requirements and systems used.
We worked with the client to build a deep understanding of the relevant technology systems and key stakeholders. We developed a tagging process and systematic naming convention in Google Tag Manager (GTM) with detailed documentation highlighting all macro and micro conversion goals, triggers, and tags.
We then worked to develop a strategy around data import across multiple systems and digital assets into one central Google Analytics (GA) account.
We were then able to conduct advanced segmentation, built custom reports, dashboards and created custom channel groupings to meet TAFE’s data analysis and marketing needs.
At the end of the project TAFE stakeholders had custom and accurate reports for each division. They were able to perform benchmarking across all divisions and were better able to understand their student enrolment performance and better perform specific channel optimisation.
All members also had access to clean, robust and reliable reports, supporting performance metrics and providing actionable insight.
